Laura Plantation and Oak Alley Plantation Tour - Memoirs of a Creole
Enjoy a narrated journey through scenic cypress swamps with a professional historian. Hear of a land of Creoles, pirates, slaves and voodoo. View Evergreen, Whitney, Felicite' Columbia and St Joseph. as you travel the Old River Road to visit Laura, a Creole plantation whose charm is as rich as her history.
Based on the "Plantation Memoirs" of Laura Lacoul, a young Creole girl who grew up on the plantation, the tour narration centers on the charmed and tragic lives of this sugar plantation's women, slaves and children. The tour of the manor house gardens and slave quarters is accompanied by the compelling narration that has earned Laura a "Louisiana's Top Travel Attraction" designation.
Afterward, tour the treasure of the Old South, the magnificent antebellum Oak Alley mansion. With 28 three century old oak trees lining its entrance, Oak Alley is an exquisite reminder of an bygone era, an era now "Gone With The Wind".
The tour centers on plantation history, antiques and architecture. After the tour, relax on historic grounds, sip a Mint Julep, take pictures, enjoy the snack shop or visit their large Gift Shop. A photo op session from the levee is next before returning to New Orleans about 2:00 PM..
